Most people are trying to rid their homes of all toxic cleaning products. The main reasons being that they smell so strong, they can be dangerous for our health, and they are also bad for the environment. The truth is, natural cleaners tend to be safer and are usually just as effective. Have you ever read the labels of some of the chemical cleaning products you find at the store? Some of them can contain bleach and even formaldehyde. There are also all of the symbols that show up on the labels of these toxic cleaning products which aren't a good sign either. For example, some of them will have a symbol showing that the product is corrosive, with a skeleton hand in a container. That means that the product could burn your skin on contact and that it's best not to get it directly on your skin. Other products are flammable, and if they come in contact with heat, they can start fires which is pretty dangerous, to say the least. Then, of course, there's the skull and cross bones symbol which means the product is toxic and should be used cautiously.

Drain cleaners are one of the most toxic of all the cleaning products and can be deathly if ingested. The good news is, you can create your own diy natural cleaners to replace that toxic drain cleaner altogether. Melissa from Clean My Space has loads of awesome cleaning tips and diy recipes for natural cleaners on her website, and in this video, she teaches us how to make 5 different natural cleaners that will be totally safe to use. All you need for the drain cleaner is 1 Cup Salt, 1 Cup Baking Soda and 1/4 Cup cream of tartar. Just mix everything up in a bowl and pour a quarter cup of the mixture down your drain at a time. Then pour down 2 cups of boiling water and wait one minute before doing it again with more of the powder. You can also make your own toilet bowl cleaner with natural ingredients. Once you use this, you'll never feel the need to go back to using the old toxic cleaners. Mis up 1/2 cup baking soda, 1/2 cup water. 1/4 cup dish soap, 1/4 hydrogen peroxide and 15 drops tea tree oil in a container and pour some into the toilet whenever you need to clean it. Not only will it clean your toilet really well, but it'll also smell nice too.

Bleach is a very popular cleaner used for so many different jobs around the house. People like it's clean scent and the way it leaves things feeling spotless, but it can also be very toxic for us. It can be bad for our lungs when it's inhaled, so caution should always be used if using this chemical, or it should be avoided. It can also burn your skin when it comes into contact with it. There is a recipe for a natural bleach that won't have any of the nasty side effects of the chemical stuff. All you need is 1/4 cup lemon juice, 1 cup 3% hydrogen peroxide, 3/4 cup washing soda and some water. Mix all of the ingredients up and use wherever you would use regular bleach. The lemon juice and peroxide work so well together to disinfect just like bleach would, plus the lemon scent leaves your home feeling and smelling extra fresh. So the next time you reach for the chemical concoctions under your sink, why not try some of these natural cleaners and cleaning tips instead? You might just find that you like them better anyway.***
